If you've ever taught school, you'll totally relate to Mr. Done's experiences. He's "spot on" and makes you laugh about even the most frustrating aspects of the job. All teachers should read the book as should parents to get an insight about what really happens in the classroom.
I read both of the Philip Done books, but the one I laughed my way through was 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny. I read in the chapters ahead that his students parents made him a lasagna dinner, but didn't know if his teacher friend ever did. The stories and incidents he tells in this book regarding his students are hilarious and wonderful. I have a questions of Philip Done if he is reading this review - did your teacher friend every make you a dinner of lasagna. I hope Philip Done writes another book. This was one fun read, and I enjoyed myself immensely.
Mr Done describes life with children- with all their unpredictability, and precious moments from the eyes of the child, filtered through those of an amazing teacher. Both kids and adults in our family laughed out loud, and were reminded of some of lifes great lessons.
Phil Done is one amazing teacher/author. He tells his stories with warmth, humor and the wisdom of one who "gets" how children tick. His love for kids and for the profession shine through on every page. He reaches all of us, whether teachers or just plain grown-ups who remember what it was like to be a kid. How fortunate for the hundreds of youngsters who can say that "Mr. Done was their teacher." How fortunate for us that we can it experience it vicariously.
It will reinforce the reasons why they chose to become teachers and will inspire them again should there be any doubt. I am into the self motivation and positive reinforcement stuff. As an aspiring teacher, I was looking for a few books on teacher motivation. Funny and inspiring. Done's passion becomes a reward for everyone who has the good smarts to pick up this book and open the first page. They will see that teachers are people too, who are dedicated to bringing out the best in each and every child, each and every day they are blessed to have them under their wings.Great beach or rainy day reading.
I couldn't wait to order this book. The few pages I was able to read online as a teaser left me wanting more. When it arrived a few days later I immediately started reading it and soon found myself laughing out loud again and saying, "I love it." once more. Philip Done's ability to capture "a day in the life" is done with humor, grace and love. I LOVED this book. If you are considering this book, consider no more. Mr.
This is a must read. Every teacher should read this book. The truthfulness in his writing is plain to see by anyone who knows a child. When I saw the title of this book, it sparked my curiosity. Every parent should read this book.
His love for his class is so evident and his passion for teaching is crystal clear. It took me back to my own childhood and I longed for its days of innocence. It will help them to gain an understanding and appreciation of what's inside of a teacher's heart. Pass this one along.
